Setting up sync rules

What are sync rules?

Sync rules let you control which events are mirrored and how. Instead of syncing everything on a calendar, you can exclude specific events, force certain events to always sync, or apply other logic based on tags in the event title.

Using tags

Tags are keywords you add to an event title, wrapped in square brackets. 2calendars recognizes these tags and applies the corresponding rule.

Excluding events with [nosync]

Add [nosync] to an event title to prevent it from being mirrored. For example, an event titled “Lunch with Alex [nosync]” will not create a block on your other calendar.

This is useful for events that do not affect your availability, such as reminders, all-day background events, or optional meetings.

Forcing sync with [urgent]

Add [urgent] to an event title to ensure it is always mirrored, even if other rules might otherwise exclude it. This is a way to override exclusion rules for high-priority events.

How rules are applied

Rules are evaluated when an event is created or updated on the source calendar:

1. 2calendars detects the event change.
2. It checks the event title for recognized tags.
3. If a [nosync] tag is present, the event is skipped.
4. If no exclusion applies, the event is mirrored to the destination calendar.

Tags are case-insensitive — [NoSync], [NOSYNC], and [nosync] all work the same way.

Tips

• Tags can appear anywhere in the event title — beginning, middle, or end.
• You can combine tags if needed.
• Tags are not visible on the mirrored event. The destination calendar only shows the configured appearance (Busy, custom title, or full details).
• If you remove a tag from an event that was previously skipped, the event will be mirrored on the next sync cycle.
